After 30 some odd years working in opera, dance, stage, film, music theatre, and cabarets all across the US, she’s ready to pack all of that creative prowess into a tiny padded cave with just her and a mic for her next adventure in the world of voiceover.

Ok, tell me I’m wrong!  We set up our profiles on multiple casting and pay to play sites, develop a killer website and social media presence. We make sure we have our “camera ready” zoom spot and perfect photos and demos for display.  We become aggressive by being the one who makes the first contact, because we know the prospect we want, won’t.  AND, when or if we get a response (hallelujia!) we work hard at being what they need us to be.

That first date is when we are determined to wow with our personality, talent and “first kiss,” (VO gig), they fall in love with us on the spot.  Notice I said, they.  Not because of anything political but because monogamy is not expected.  We are relentless “players,” at this game of serial marketing with no expectations of either of us being faithful.  We’d rather accumulate a group of regulars!  And the bigger the group, the better!  We then get to experience more variety and adventures with money, popularity, skill sets,  as we feed our addiction to voice acting along with paying the bills.

The second, third, fourth, fifth date with someone we’ve enticed into a friendly relationship validates our desirability. So, we eagerly make first contact with someone new.  The only thing different between marketing and dating is our reputation.  Becoming known as “easy” when playing the field while dating is not what we want at all!  But with marketing and delivering a “good time,” every time, for everybody only enhances our reputation!

For Christmas this season, don’t be shy!  Give yourself the gift of playing the field with marketing!  Say hello and smile more to people as you go through your day. I’ve found it fun to pick up prospective business owners at the check out in Walmart, the auto repair store, etc.  Flirt and charm the socks off of them.  Who cares if you never hear from them?  And if you do for the wrong reasons, tell them how flattered you are they remembered you but you’re married to a prosecuting attorney!  And then ask if you can get a referral? It can be a huge candy store out there, especially around the holidays!  Prospects will love to receive warm holiday wishes and offers of a “good time,” (if you don’t seem desperate!)  Start the new year feeling popular, validated and fulfilled with all the “dates” you scored for 24!

Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!
