Wow, another year has zoomed on in, along with another holiday coming up next week. The news is all about politics, current events, back to school stress, yada, yada, yada. All thoughts of New Year resolutions abandoned when the credit card bills come in. I so get it! But we gotta make a living!
Can’t believe it but I am now coaching acting for voice over students and my New Year intentions are to train the newbies in a way I never thought I’d do! On Zoom! And I’m getting the hang of it, meaning all the technology involved. I was so proud when I installed Source Connect to my VO savvy. Don’t laugh at me! But you can laugh at the list of excuses I’ve created from new VO students who are finding their way. If you coach also, you’ll at least chuckle! Thank God for Zoom (which I never thought I’d say) because if some of these newbies were in the same room with me, I’d cry without a mute button handy!
Beginner VO Excuses:
I’m getting a cold.
I worked on the other part.
I just woke up.
I have a sore throat.
The weather is bothering me.
I have the flu/a cold.
I think it’s a sinus infection.
I was taught by my other coach to do it a different way.
I didn’t get any sleep.
I got too much sleep.
I’m not warmed up.
I just drank some milk.
I just ate some cheese.
My cat threw up on my hard copy.
It’s too early.
It’s too hot/cold in here.
The monitor is bad.
I thought I was doing the other part.
I lost my voice screaming at a concert.
I can’t hear myself.
What sound check?
I’m not used to these headphones.
I’ve been really stressed this week.
Does upspeak mean louder?
I’m afraid of profiling my target market.
That doesn’t sound like me.
How many times do I read this?
I thought I had to memorize everything.
Happy New Year and Happy Valentines Day when it get here! I am still in love with VO and zooming. I hope you are too.
